higher ground

Today was a particularly fun day at work...if you can call it "work". A few of us, along with Friends of Nevada Wilderness, volunteered to do a cleanup of Mt. Charleston sponsored by Keen . For those of you who have never been to Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston is a welcome escape for us desert dwellers. Just a short 45 minute to an hour drive from the city, and you're transported to the gorgeous snow-capped mountains and towering, fragrant pine trees.

When I was little, my family and I used to drive out here every winter and play in the snow, have picnics and just get away from the desert. It's been way too long since the last time I was here...I will definitely make it a point to come back and visit this winter.

I'm so glad I decided to tote around my handy little Canon point and shoot to take some pictures in between painting park benches with my team. Aside from the pleasant change of scenery and great company, it was a nice treat to be up over 9,000 feet and get away from the scorching heat below.
