Just got back from my first trip to Costa Rica. It's a beautiful country, and the people are so nice and warm. As usual, I took a ton of pics and have a couple of rolls I just took to the lab, including one from San Diego.

I leave again for NYC in about a week. It's become par for the course for me to only post when I travel somewhere...and by no means is this a travel blog. I guess I need to make an honest effort to take photos here in town. I think I can make that a sort of mini resolution, to find beauty and inspiration right here in my daily surroundings instead of having to find it hundreds or thousands of miles away. I used to be able to do this...not sure what happened.

These were taken from our quick overnight trip to San Diego. My husband and I just needed to get away, just the two of us, because we've been so busy and haven't gone out of town alone since the summer. It was definitely a welcome break. I'm leaving for Costa Rica in a week, so things are going to be a little hectic for awhile. Yikes. Here goes...2012 off to an interesting start.

Happy New Year! It was a low-key NYE for us, which was really relaxing. We went to go see Mayer Hawthorne & The County at the Cosmopolitan last night, which was way better than braving the crazy crowds the night before. It was such a great show and a great way to cap off the first day of 2012.

2 days down, 363 to go! Here's to a great year ahead.

Wow, this has been the longest I've ever gone without a blog post. It's been incredibly busy lately, between work, the holidays and my furry Christmas present....Parker. Yup, I finally convinced my husband to bring a cat into our family. He's so cuddly and adorable...as you can see in these IG snapshots! Did I mention I've been busy? The only phots I take these days are with my phone or iPad..It's pretty sad.

I'll be back for the new year when things (hopefully) slow down a bit. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our 2-year wedding anniversary. Two years since that perfect day in Waimanalo and Waikiki, two years since I married my best friend.
We had a lovely, fancy dinner downtown--the old school kind where they hand you a rose at the door and the waiters wear tuxes. It was very romantic.

I finally got around to scanning some of the film photos I took recently. These are from an afternoon stroll we took through Pike Place Market. We had lunch at the Pike Place Brewery and wandered around for a bit after. I always enjoy the craziness that goes on around downtown Seattle...lots of eccentric and interesting people to see.

Chicago was incredible. We managed to squeeze in a lot in a few days, and I'm already thinking we'll be back next year to check out the museums. We tried two different pizza joints in the city: Gino's East and Lou Malnati's. I have to admit, I liked Lou's better! I also loved Ed Debevic's, a '50s-style diner where the waiters "act" rude and smartass-y towards the customers. Our waiter "Popcorn" wasn't all that rude...more funny than anything. I'm a sucker for diners and diner food, what can I say.

More photos to come soon...I've been crazy busy since getting back and it's only going to get busier well into the holidays! Glad we were lucky enough to take a few days off with some good friends. I love taking actual vacations.

Sorry for the lack of posts, last week was a little nuts, and it doesn't look like it'll slow down anytime soon.

These were taken (w/ the Vignette app on Android) from Friday's Outside Lands. They wouldn't let any cameras with detachable lenses in the show, so phone pics it was! I think I would have broken my camera had I brought it anyway.

My phone died halfway through the day, so I missed some of the more memorable parts...like the Shins. Their show was so, so amazing. They've always been up there in my favorite bands list, but I'd never seen them live until that day. Needless to say I was on cloud 9.

Will try to post more photos from my weekend trip to SF, I managed to finish one 35mm roll, should be back from the lab in a few days. G'nite for now! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Just got back from a quick work trip to SD. I didn't take any cameras but couldn't help but snap a few shots with my phone. The weather was ridiculously amazing, especially considering how hot it is in Vegas. I did a lot of walking around Gaslamp and we even got a quick detour in to Mission Beach to ride bikes for a bit.

It's so nice to be home though; got lots to do (when is this not the case?). I'm also really excited for this week- Dodgers v. Phillies game this Wednesday, back at work Thursday for a long but eventful day, and then it's off to my beloved SF for Outside Lands! It's gonna be a long week indeed.

Hopefully tomorrow(well, today technically) will be relaxing, but somehow, I doubt it. ;) Hope everyone has a great rest of their weekend.

I'm stoked to head out to SF again in a couple of weeks for Outside Lands. Finally get to see the Shins live. I'm also looking forward to possibly sneak in some beach time and spend time with friends. Hoping the next few days go by quickly...I've been in need of a mental break (not to mention a break from the hot/humid weather)

*I hate the awkward stage my hair is going through right now as I try to grow it out again. I've been taking these supplements to help it along.
*Our upcoming Dodgers v. Phillies game in August. We're so bummed at how things are playing out this season...I don't really like to talk about it.
*Really wanting/needing this and this.
*Starting to plan for a Chicago trip (finally). It'll be our first time ever. Wrigley field here we come!
*I really need to go vintage shopping soon. Need a new bag for fall but so over spending $$.
*Must get inspired and take photos downtown to enter this contest. I never win anything cool, but this is a good motivation to get back to taking photos around town.
*I'm craving Ted's Chocolate Haupia Pie. I would (almost) kill for some now.

I usually don't repost other people's photos on my blog, but I loved this find so much, I had to put it up. It's of Amelia Earhart and Duke Kahanamoku during her stay in Hawai'i circa 1930. I can't get enough of old photos, especially from that era.

I found the photo from my most recent blog discovery: VELOKOVA. I love her blog so much, and with as many blogs as I follow both here and in my other feeds, this one really stood out to me since it captures two things I love dearly: photography and travel. Check it out if you love both things as much as I do...and if you love the great outdoors as well. I'm smitten!

It's been an unusually rainy and gloomy week here in Las Vegas. We went to Vegas strEATS this weekend and got totally rained on. I must admit, it is a nice change of pace from the usual triple-digit heat we get in July.

These were taken the day we got to LA. We got there before the observatory opened, which turned out to be a great idea because once they opened, the whole place was flooded with kids from different day camps.

I absolutely love the grounds here with the vast rolling hills and the foggy city in the distance. It almost makes you forget you're in LA...almost.

LA birthday

Just got back from a quick trip to LA for my birthday. This was the first time in a long time that I went out of town for my actual b-day, so it was definitely much appreciated. I didn't realize how much I missed the City of Angels until we got there.

It was such a relaxing trip. I even got a pretty ripe sunburn from riding beach cruisers down Venice Beach. You know it's been a good week when you come home with a sunburn!

Sorry for the lack of posts. I still have some film photos to scan, and hopefully a much-needed trip in about a month for my birthday, which is looming over me like some sort of deadline...Until then, I hope to be back shortly. Overcast day in Laguna Beach

Hello! It's been so long since my last post. My husband and I took a mini break this weekend and flew out to Orange County to see my childhood friend's new baby. It seems like everybody around us is having babies!!! We're slowly becoming the only childless couple around. I'm still so not ready despite the serious bout of baby fever I've been experiencing for the past few months. I'm thinking it's a phase, or maybe, just maybe, I'm getting to that age where I'm biologically wired to start wanting one. Yikes.

On a less overwhelming note, I want to make cakepops. I've never attempted them, but I've always wanted to. I saw them at Starbucks the other day and thought, I could make that myself!

Just some randoms on this hot Sunday afternoon....

It's starting to feel like beach weather out there! Well, more like pool weather for us...but I definitely need to get my beach fix soon or I'm going to seriously lose it. I get a little nuts when I go too long without seeing the ocean.

Another thing I've been obsessing over recently: getting a Ragdoll kitten. I've wanted this particular breed of cat since I was a little girl. They're enormous (anywhere from 10-20 lbs.) cuddly, laid-back cats, exactly what I've always wanted. The only downside is, my husband is allergic to cats (so he claims, although I've never witnessed this), and this breed costs a few hundred bucks from a reputable breeder. Maybe one day...We just have so much to save up for. Blah.

My old succulent plants didn't get enough sun, so they didn't quite make it through the winter. I thought I'd start the spring with brand new ones. I like them so much better than my old ones. Out with the old, in with the new.

More photos from last weekend. The huge black cat sitting on the bar stool is named "Seventeen", apparently because he weighed 17 pounds...his owner said he's up to 18 pounds now. He was so cute. I wish I could own a cat, but my husband is deathly allergic to them.

So, I think I've decided to run the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Marathon this December...which means I need to start training, like, yesterday! It's going to be a night marathon this year, which is why I wanted to do it. It seems like a really cool experience to be able to run down the Strip at night. I also need a health-related goal to work towards because I've been majorly slacking for the past couple of months.

Well, happy Humpday everyone! Opening day for baseball is tomorrow, and I'm super excited. I also can't wait for the weekend. April is almost here; I can hardly believe it.

ghost town pt.1

We decided to drive out to Nelson to go to the Techatticup Mine ghost town. This is where we took our engagement photos, and we haven't been back since then. I've always been a sucker for historical artifacts. Living in Las Vegas, it's hard to find things of significant historical value since this town has a tendency to implode buildings and replace the old with the new. It was recently announced that they're closing the Sahara Hotel & Casino. So, anytime I can be amidst old places and things, I always enjoy it. I guess you could call me a nostalgic person. Very much so.

Being in the middle of nowhere between Vegas and Searchlight is as much of a retreat as we have time for these days, but it was still fun. I love taking photos of the old trucks, vintage signs and beautiful mountains.

Things as of late:

-Just started a new position in a new department in my company, which I'm proud to say, I've been with for five years this month. It's amazing how fast time flies...I think back to five years ago and how different things were.

-Starting to think about where I want to go for my birthday this year...preferably somewhere with better weather than Vegas in the summer. I'm thinking my contenders are : Portland, Austin (which may be too humid!), or San Diego. I've been in dire need of a vacation for a long time.

-Obsessed with A.P.C.'s S/S 2011 line! I'm gushing over the Western Top, Sailor Collar Dress, and Flared Skirt.

-I must have this Kate Spade tote! It's the cutest thing everrrrr.

-I've been looking for a pair of oxford ballerina flats for some time, and these are pure perfection.

Happy Friday everyone!

It's a warm, gorgeous spring day today, and I've been enjoying just being outside as much as I can. It's time to "spring forward" tomorrow, which means we lose an hour of sleep...ugh. Why can't we just do away with daylight savings time? I guess it's good to have more daylight. We only get about two months of actual spring weather here, so it's good to cherish each day of great weather before the hellish summers start again.

On a sad note, my thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

Vegas really is a strange little town. I mean this in the most loving way, but there's something to be said about our collection of commercialized replicas of the world's most iconic structures, cities and civilizations: ancient Rome, the Sphinx, the pyramids, Venice, New York City, Paris. Some may call it tacky...actually, a lot of people call it tacky. I think it's pretty fascinating.

On another note, it's starting to feel a lot like spring around here lately. The weather has been pretty great. I think I need to take advantage of it while I can. It's hard to believe it's March already!

mistakes and to-do lists

*Film got stuck and broke in my camera (how I managed to do this, I'm still unsure) . Opening the camera exposed the film just enough to produce a couple of interesting frames.

Happy Friday! I got to thinking today; I need to make a list of things I've been meaning to do, fun things, that I have been too distracted to do so as of late. I'm definitely a to-do-list type of person, and unless I jot something down somewhere, the chances of it getting done are less likely. So... here's my list as of right now:

-Ride go carts.
-Hang out at the lake.
-Do a massive spring cleaning. (this doesn't count as fun, but still needs to be done nonetheless)
-Bowling. (I've never been a huge fan, but I'll give it a real shot.)
-Read a book I wouldn't normally pick up.
-Play more board games.
-Dust off my Polaroid Land camera and take photos again.
-Ride a bike. (I guess I should borrow one first...)
-Buy more fresh flowers.

There's a lot more, but I'll start with those for now.

Taken from our trip to Mt. Charleston a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a huge fan of the snow, but this time around, I actually really enjoyed it.

It was a really nice escape from reality. Sometimes, we need those to gain some perspective.

I feel like I've sort of neglected this blog lately. It's not for the lack of trying...Life's just been throwing me lots of curve balls lately.

Recent things:
-Went to see the Black Keys show at the Chelsea Theater this weekend. They were as amazing as I'd imagined.
-Lots of scary and exciting changes in the horizon...more to come soon.
-Looking forward to baseball season.
-Revamping my closet. I got rid of a ton of stuff. Change is good.

Currently in the beginning of a life-changing phase....without getting into too much detail (for a public blog, that is.)

I've always been a firm believer that people will always be a work in progress until the very last day of their lives, and I'm no exception.

I'll continue to make a real effort to get back into the things I love, to taking life one day at a time, one fleeting moment at a time. To remember to be grateful for things that I do have, and to be willing to let go of things that won't serve the ultimate purpose in this life: happiness and love.

I just didn't want February to go by without a post, being that it's the shortest month... I'm sorry this one ended up sounding so dreary, but it's not meant to be. I'll be back when I get back... I've got some film photos that I've yet to scan...so hopefully I'll get to posting them here.

I am positively drooling over Orla Kiely's Spring 2011 line! I always get so excited over spring every year. It's my absolute favorite season, both in fashion and in weather. What's not to love? Flowers bloom, trees sprout back to life, and I get to wear spring dresses and sandals! I'm planning on wearing more dresses and skirts this spring, and my radar is definitely honed in on this amazing line.

Today marks exactly one year to the day I started this little blog. I was just looking back at my whole year's worth of entries and it all feels like so long ago, but at the same time, I wonder where the time went. I'd apologize for the lack of posts, but that would just make me repetitive...

Lately ,the days seem to just merge together like one extremely long day. It's been really weird lately. I've had zero inspiration, and haven't really gotten into the "Christmas spirit" as hard as I try. I'm really more excited for New Year's Eve.

Puppy search still goes on. We're going to another breeder this weekend. It's going to be another busy and short one. I miss having weekends with no plans but taking my camera out and seeing where the day takes me.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Life's been a tad hectic, especially with the holiday season in full swing. So much going on, too many things to do.... I'm kind of just looking forward to the new year to be quite honest.

I just got a new pack of PX600 film that I hope to have time to use this weekend. Not too many plans besides checking out some puppies tomorrow, starting our Euro-trip planning (I hope!) and some much-needed home renovation (ugh). Yeah, we're anything but rock stars. Have a great weekend everyone!

Just another Monday...woke up way earlier than I wanted to, going to yoga when that's the last thing I wanted to do...staying up way later than I should be. The usual.

I'm so behind on Christmas shopping, it's not even funny. I always procrastinate. Maybe it's because I worked retail for years when I was in high school and college, and it successfully sucked all the joy out of Christmas shopping for me. I'm probably doing all my shopping online again, in the comfort of my pajamas. Yeah, taking the lazy route. I really do need to step it up and put more effort into all this.

Maybe I should put up more Christmas decor to get into the mood. All I did was put up the handmade wreath my mom gave me. We'll see...
I hope this next weekend will be infinitely better than this last one.

-I started leaving all those agricultural checkpoint stickers on this suitcase a couple of years back...like little mementos of each trip.
-The view leaving O'ahu. I love this view but it also makes me a little sad...leaving always sucks.

I will try my hardest to get out there and take some new pics this weekend. I haven't had any chance to at all in a couple of weeks since getting home. Happy weekend to everyone :)

We started this morning walking Laniakea, watching the surfers. Unfortunately, there were no turtles that day...none.
This roll got stuck in my Diana camera and I had to force it out, hence the light leaks. Not sure why it even got stuck. Toy cameras are so unpredictable.

On another note, you know what else is unpredictable? Life. There's been sooo much going on right now, it's hard to keep up.
I'm hoping to have a relaxing weekend. It's weird that I say that when it's only Tuesday!

I just started Bikram yoga yesterday hoping to find some stress relief, but I was wrong! It was THE toughest workout i've been through so far! It was so challenging to just stay in the room which is heated to 108 degrees at 80% humidity...it was ridic. The postures were pretty much the same from what I'm used to with Vinyasa yoga, but that heat/humidity really got the best of me. I'm gonna stick with it for a month though...I need a challenge like this right about now.

Otto Cake is a funky little bakery tucked away in Honolulu's Arts District (in Chinatown to be exact). This little bake shop serves up some of THE best cheesecakes I've ever had. I admit, it's the punk rock roots that first drew me in to this inconspicuous little bake shop, but it's the cheesecakes that leave me wanting to tell everyone I can about it. We recently tried the lilikoi cheesecake, and ohmygod, it was a-mazing. Definitely worth a visit.

P.S. I apologize for the onslaught of Hawaii pics...It's been too crazy/busy around here lately to take pics of daily life. Hope to get back into some form of normalcy soon.

Ahh...nature is awesome. I can't believe I'd never been to Waimea Falls before. The park has a really nice paved hiking trail and lots foliage and flowers from different tropical countries. I chickened out when it came time to go swimming in the waterfalls. The water was freezing! I left that to my nieces, and they had so much fun. Now I kinda wish I went in the water...next time for sure.

These were taken at Makaha Beach where my brother-in-law is a lifeguard. He caught two octopus which I attempted to help de-gut and failed miserably. Those things are just so slippery. My little niece did a way better job with them since they live by the beach and get to do fun stuff like this all the time.

Blah...i'm still feeling under the weather. It didn't help that it was raining most of the day today.

I've been stuck at home all day with a nasty flu, so when I finally mustered up enough energy to crawl out of bed, I decided to start uploading a few more pics. I couldn't believe how many I took...I always do that! I also took entirely way too many cameras on this trip, much to my husband's annoyance. He ends up being my assistant and lugs all of them around for me.

I'm hoping to feel better by daytime so I can finish unpacking, cleaning, and most importantly, go to get some film developed. I still feel like total crap right now, I absolutely despise being sick. I try to be productive, but it ends up backfiring on me and I stay sick longer...I'm so stubborn.

The birthday boy caught a little flu earlier this weekend, but thankfully got better just in time to celebrate.

I think I wore this pink wig to death. This is what happens when you procrastinate and don't think of a backup costume...I do wish I could wear it on a regular basis without people looking at me funny. I kind of love it (obviously).

I'm excited for Halloween weekend to start! Kicked it off early with all the festivities at work. I wore my wig ALL DAY today in the office and ended up with the worst case of "wig head" when I met up some friends for drinks after...
To make it worse, I had to witness the SF Giants pummel the Rangers again tonight...(sorry Giants fans, but I will be in a verry bad mood if they take the world series)

Anyway, I digress...Halloween. Excited. Oh, and It's the hubby's b-day weekend as well. Still not sure where to go for dinner. Wanna try something new...it's been awhile.

It finally stops raining in Vegas...I finally got to take my Polaroid 250 Land Camera out for practice...Just to waste almost an entire box of film because it constantly got stuck in the camera, or was underexposed...
This was the best I could do for today. Blah. Hooray for blue skies I guess :)

I think I got the hang of it now. More to come soon.

I just woke up from an hour nap, but now I feel even more groggy than before. I'm feeling a bit disoriented. This is why I never take naps. Definitely need to head out the door before I fall back into my comfy, warm bed on an early Saturday night!!! Until next time...

Taken last month in San Clemente...I took a lot more photos than I thought.

I love the marine layer that shrouds the coast early in the morning. We took a little stroll down the pier and watched the surfers for awhile before breakfast. I am in desperate need of more mornings like this one.

Oh, and I want these rings very badly.

Second attempt at the first flush PX 600 Silver Shade, but I made the mistake of taking these photos when it's still pretty hot out, plus I think this pack was subjected to a lot of heat during shipping. So as you can see, they turned out reddish and dark... Hoping I have better luck with the newer version of the 600 film...whenever I have money to get more. This is a very expensive habit. It's a lot of trial and error...

These turned out way better than my hazy Polaroid (thank God!). I love ending the day watching the sunset at the pier...pretty much any pier will do. This night was particularly gorgeous. The weather was pretty perfect and the horizon to the left was covered in a misty dusk fog.

October's here! I'm so ready for sweater weather in Vegas. I'm also starting to look around for a yellow dress to wear with my Halloween costume this year. It's going to be challenging to find a yellow babydoll dress in October...but I sure will try. I've been wanting to dress up as the Morton Salt Girl for awhile now...and I'm trying to convince my husband to be Mr. Clean (since he has a shaved head). We'll see.

On another note, I am lusting after these amazing boots.

San Clemente pier at dusk. This is really my favorite part of day, when the sky is set ablaze by the setting sun, and the ocean gets a really dreamy shade of blue-gray. I wish I had this view on a daily basis.

Oh and this song makes me miss California already. It's hard to leave the ocean for the desert...every time.

Some photos from last night's Band of Horses show. It was probably the best live show I've seen in a very long time. Admiral Radley kind of surprised me, even though I love both Earlimart and Grandaddy, I wasn't sure how the indie rock hybrid would sound live...but they were pretty damn good.

BoH opened with "Our Swords" which apparently they had never done before...and they closed the show with "No One's Gonna Love You" and "The General Specific". Such a great show, I'm so glad I finally got to see them live.

Three different beaches, one glorious afternoon PCH drive. I finally got some rolls developed from our little weekend drive to California.

Today was a pretty grueling day considering it was supposed to be a pretty laid-back Saturday...car shopping was just as torturous as I had imagined...it's still close to 100 degrees outside, and as usual, I have a million things on my to-do list. Yoga was amazing last night though, and was exactly what I needed. Slowly but surely I'm learning to focus on gratitude again, and not be so consumed with the petty everyday things...like I just was today..but, like I said: baby steps. I guess we're all a work in progress.

Right now, I'm just tired and not really in the mood for anything except finishing this book I've been reading and going to sleep.
